DeleteKilalu also known as Hilsa kelee or kelee shad is a freshwater fish.
Another fish, Godavari pulusa a premium delicacy is normally sold in rainy season and priced very high. People wait while year till august to October when the original fish is available at yanam, Ravulapalem, Kottipalle and Dowlewaram . But traders pass off HILSA fish (Iiasha) as pulasa sometimes due to low availability.
The unique taste comes fron fatty acids in the fish so the river caught obes taste better.
While the hilsa fish starts its journey from pacific ocean and enters godavari river through west bengal and Odisha for breeding from july to October.

ReplyDeleteThey are available throughout the year but during October- march period when they ascend the rivers immediately after a freshet in northeast coast. But these days there are fish farming for eels. Northwest coast like gujarat and maharashtra better catches are from May to September, but found throughout the year.
